Director of Shut-in Ministries

The Director of Shut-in Ministries is a part-time position of offering caring ministires to those in our church community who are confined to home or nursing care facilities, and are unable to attend ministry opportunities at the church facilities. The Director of Shut-in Ministries also coordinates other volunteer efforts to reach out to the shutins in our parish.

Personal Info 

Mariem joined Bethel UMC in 1981, serving in many areas of the church until becoming a member of the staff in May, 2004. 

Mariem was raised on a farm in Fleming County, Kentucky.  She grew up in Christian home, and her family attended a small, country Methodist Church.  Looking back, she realizes that, along with her parents, her Sunday School teachers had a big impact on her Christian life.

Mariem attended Morehead State University, where she received a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education.  She continued her education to specialize in Early Childhood Education and, also attended Xavier and Wright State, where she specialized in math.

Her teaching career began in Ripley, Ohio.  She then accepted a position with Georgetown Exempted Village Schools, and retired from there after 33 years of teaching in public schools.  She returned to Ripley for two yrs at St. Michael Catholic School.  “A teacher she will always be.”

Mariem was married to Alan White, an elementary principal, for 16 yrs until he lost his battle with leukemia in September of 1997.  They have two children, a son, Carl and a daughter, Elizabeth.  "Eliz" went to meet her Savior in 2006.

Mariem's  Special Interests

Mariem enjoys home decorating as well as collecting and refinishing antiques.
