Heritage Celebration Weekend Coming September 11-12

Pictured above is Sunday's Keynote Speaker, Rev. Aaron Brown, and Saturday Nights Highlight Singers, the Cornerstone Quartet.

We Are Beginning Our Countdown to a Great Heritage Celebration Weekend  and we invite you to participate in as many weekend events as possible.  We love to play, and eat, and BEST OF ALL, we love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  This weekend is designed will let us reconnect with old and new friends, and recommit to continuing our rich heritage of serving our Lord. For newer attendees, this will permit learning more about how BUMC has evolved over the decades, how it has continued to be a leader in our community and how it has not waivered on core principles in these changing times.

Vacation Bible School Scenes - 2010

During the week of July 12th-16, 2010, the Bethel United Methodist Church conducted it's annual Vacation Bible School.  This year’s theme was:  “High Seas Expedition: Exploring the Mighty Love of God.”  The VBS was open to children from age three up through those entering seventh grade.  For the 5 day event, we averaged 300 children each day, not counting the several dozen additional teen and adult helpers and leaders.

Many plans were made for an exciting week! Children explored the mighty love of God on a journey had the potential to change them forever.  Activities included visits to Bible Land dramas, “Ship Rec Games,” incredible music, snacks from the ship’s galley, amazing crafts and prizes, all designed to help faith flow into real life.

J.D. Young's New Emphasis In Our Youth / Young Adult Ministry

Since the beginning of May, Bethel UM Church has been blessed by the ministry of our new Youth/Young Adult Pastor, J.D. Young, (John David).  With any transition comes a new spark, and a new sense of wonder and excitement.  That spark is what J.D. Young hopes to ignite in the Bethel Community.   J.D. hopes to accomplish this by engaging youth in relevant ways and encouraging them to live lives that are glorifying to God the Father.

Come and see what’s new with the Bethel UMC Youth!  There are plenty of activities throughout the week, such as:  Tuesday afternoon hangout from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.  During this time there will be wiffle ball, ultimate Frisbee or basketball.  The kickoff for this Summer is June 8th, and will include a grill out!  Please call ahead so we have an idea of how much food to prepare!

Wednesday Night Summer Study – This summer we will be taking a look at those who have suffered or given their lives for the sake of the Gospel.  Oftentimes it is easy to become lazy as Christians due to the religious freedom found in the United States.  Throughout this study we will discover those who have given their lives for our Lord, and encourage this current generation to live boldly for Christ.

As always we have our Youth / Young Adult service located in the Chapel at Bethel UMC, starting at 10:45am Sunday morning.  During this time we encourage all to worship God and praise Him for His mighty works in our lives.  Also, J.D. Young brings a message to our youth.  This summer and into the fall, J.D. will be preaching from the book of Philippians.

Themes That Will Guide Us in 2010

Our Church Leadership Planning Retreat met in early January.  We looked at our church through the framework of our five emphases,

Radical Hospitality

Passionate Worship

Intentional Faith Development

Risk Taking Mission & Service

Extravagant Generosity

We especially focused on Intentional Faith Development, and how it can be impacted by a new overall church theme of "Engaging Evangelism."  These are themes that we pray God will help us continue to implement in 2010.
