Welcome to the Youth Ministries of BUMC!! We are thrilled you’ve taken a moment to see what our program is all about. Here at BUMC, we don’t believe youth are the future of the church; they ARE the church. As a vital part of our church, we recognize that each generation has their own unique way of relating to one another and the current culture. Through these relationships and culture we seek to make Jesus Christ known. We strive to make this happen through a variety of different avenues: Jr. High and Sr. High classes held on Sunday morning; Small Groups throughout the week; Retreats and Mission Projects. Below is a brief description of the many aspects to youth ministry at BUMC. We would love to see you on a Sunday morning, or feel free to contact us at the church with any questions.
Sunday School Classes (9:15 – 10:15)
Jr. High (7th – 8th Grades): Each week our Jr. High class meets together to discuss ways in which Jesus Christ desires to be the center of their life. Utilizing “SimplyLive” Jr. High Curriculum, we discuss important topics, such as: God’s Big Story; Who is God; The Life of Jesus; Family Matters; and Pain and Struggles. This class is taught by a team of volunteers and is the perfect place for your Jr. High student to quickly become acquainted with our teens and programs.
Sr. High / Young Adults Each Sunday morning our Sr. High youth gather for what we call, “The 314 Life.” This class has its named rooted in Ephesians 3:14, where Paul states: “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father.” We believe that God calls all of us to live lives of obedience, not just in some areas, but all areas of our life. As we follow Jesus’ life of obedience, we too find opportunities to bow our knees before God. Through our partnership with Orange Curriculum, we seek to address real areas of life / struggle with our teens. This program allows us to equip parents, so they too can engage in important Christ centered conversations with their teens. “The 314 Life” is taught by our Family Life Pastor, J.D. Young.
Life Groups (Youth and Young Adult Small Groups)
Jr. High (7th – 8th Grades): Prime Time is held on Sunday morning, from 11:30am – 1:30pm during the school year. This time is mainly focused on developing friendships within the youth program and serving local missions. Each week we grab lunch and then go about making memories through fun and service. Again, this is a tremendous way for your teens to get connect with other Jr. High students in the church. We do ask that Jr. High students pay $5 each week towards lunch to help pay for their meal.
Sr. High (9th – 12th Grades): FlipSide is held on Monday nights, from 6:00pm – 8:15pm during the Bethel-Tate school year. These nights are filled with food, open gym and Bible Study. The lessons from Sunday morning are discussed in groups, as we seek to grow in our relationship with God. Like Prime Time for Jr. High, this is a wonderful way for teens to make friends with their peers at BUMC.
Young Adults / College Age (18 – 26ish): On Sunday nights, young adults meet at a home away from BUMC, from 5:00pm – 7:30pm. This time consists of a meal, socializing and Bible Study.
Each of these groups also engage in fun events outside of regular small groups and Sunday morning activities. There is never a lack of something to do at BUMC. We hope you’ll join us!!
